Norma Barfield
Norma Barfield is the Chief Development and Marketing Officer for the Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy. The Chavez Schools consist of a network of charter schools that provide a college preparatory education for 1,300 students in grades 6-12 in underserved communities in the District of Columbia. Mrs. Barfield joined the Chavez Schools in 2007.
Prior to joining the Chavez Schools, Mrs. Barfield served as the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for The Bartech Group, a staffing services firm from 1993-2007. She also practiced banking and commercial law with Jenner & Block in Chicago and corporate law with Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone in Ann Arbor, MI.
Mrs. Barfield has a long-standing commitment to providing educational opportunities to underserved students. She served as the Vice Chairman of the UNCF Campaign in Southeastern Michigan for five years contributing to a significant increase in funds raised during her tenure. Other community activities have included serving on the Boards of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan and the Center for the Education of Women at the University of Michigan. Currently Mrs. Barfield serves on the Board of the National Conference on Citizenship and the Leadership Awards Committee of the Washington Area Women’s Foundation.
Mrs. Barfield earned a BA from Harvard University and a JD from the Georgetown University Law Center. Mrs. Barfield resides in Potomac, Maryland and has a daughter and a son.
