Award-winning playwright/performer Katori Hall

Playwright and performer Katori Hall received her B.A. in African-American Studies and Creative Writing from Columbia University in 2003 as a class of 1999 Ron Brown Scholar. Her play Hoodoo Love premiered at New York’s Cherry Lane Theatre on November 1, 2007 and received the AUDELCO award for best supporting actress. Her other plays include Remembrance, Hurt Village, and Diaspora, a one-woman show that she performed in Cape Town, South Africa. Other performance credits include Law & Order: SVU, the world premiere of Amerika (Theatre de la Jeune Lune/American Repertory Theatre), and Ain’t Supposed to Die a Natural Death (Classical Theatre of Harlem). In 2005, Katori graduated from the American Repertory Theatre Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University with a MFA in Acting. She currently attends the Juilliard School’s Lila Acheson Wallace Playwriting program. Katori is a member of the Women’s Project Playwrights' Lab. www.katorihall.com

Rising “alternative soul” artist Sparlha Swa received a B.A. from Stanford University in Anthropology in 2001 as a class of 1997 Ron Brown Scholar. With impeccable, emotion-rich vocals reminiscent of Sade, Tracey Chapman, or Joni Mitchell, lyrical songwriting, and modal guitar chords, she has performed solo in Canada, Europe, Japan, Brazil, and across the US, has shared the stage with Fertile Ground, Climbing Poetree, Burnt Sugar, Junior Kelly, and DJ Giles Petersen, and has headlined with her full band to standing room only audiences at New York’s Blue Note Jazz Cafe, Joe's Pub, BAM Café and the Kitchen. Her discography includes Uprising (’03), In The Distance (’04), and Live from NYC (’08).
