The Council’s research is conducted by a team of resident staff research associates, fellows, interns and consultants under the direction of the senior vice president for research. An advisory committee comprised of scholars and industry experts from academia, the corporate sector and the professions provides counsel and assistance.
We actively engage the talents and energies of the Ron Brown Scholars in our work. Ron Brown Scholars participate as research fellows and interns during their undergraduate years and following graduation, they can join the Council in the capacity of a research associate. With our ties to the African-American community and our team of scholars and experts, the Council is uniquely equipped to better identify and understand the needs of black Americans and thereby make policy recommendations that meet their needs.
The Council’s research aims to improve the quality of life for African Americans in four core areas:
• Civil Rights and Social Action
• Community Development
• Education
• Public Health
Our current policy research initiatives:
• Improving African American Children’s Access to Preventive Health Care
• Citizenship and Civic Engagement Among African-American Youth
• Improving Education for African Americans
• Why We Can’t Weight: Childhood Obesity Among African Americans
