Civic Engagement of African-American Youth
The Council’s second policy research initiative looked at African-American youth and their levels of civic and community engagement. This research identified a range of civic activities that black youth can participate in to help strengthen their communities, including political participation and community development. Studies have shown that civic participation at a young age increases the likelihood that voting and civic engagement will continue into adulthood.
Two documentaries that explore the universal themes of empowerment, involvement, civic participation and the ability to influence change and make a different were produced.
