Brennan Gould is Director of Grants and Strategic Initiatives at the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation (CACF). In this role, Brennan has principal responsibility of overseeing the Community Endowment, the Foundation’s large unrestricted grant pool. She also works with strategic donor relationships within the Foundation and oversees other Foundation initiatives. Brennan works with her colleagues to develop and implement donor engagement and grantmaking strategies to improve the quality of life throughout the CACF seven-locality service area.
Prior to joining the staff at CACF, Brennan worked as District Liaison to former 5th District Congressman Tom Perriello. In her role with the Congressman’s office, she worked with local governments, nonprofits, and local project leaders to help them identify and secure federal funding resources, develop strategic partnerships, and learn about upcoming federal opportunities. She educated communities on the opportunities made available through the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and helped to communicate the needs of local communities to federal agencies. Additionally, Brennan developed events and workshops aimed at building a bridge between applicants and funders and increasing competitiveness in the Central and Southern regions of Virginia.
Brennan previously worked in the nonprofit sector as part of the staff of the Ron Brown Scholar Program located in Charlottesville. While working with the Program, Brennan developed a community service foundation to encourage and support innovative service projects created by Scholars that would benefits citizens in their communities. She also served as Executive Director of the Ron Brown Scholar Alumni Association and worked to facilitate continued Scholar connectivity and networking. Brennan is a 2001 Ron Brown Scholar.
Since moving to Charlottesville in 2008, Brennan has been active in her local community. She is a 2010 graduate of the Board Development Academy offered by the Center for Nonprofit Excellence and serves on the Board of Directors of Big Brother Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge and of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville. She was also a founding member of the Charlottesville Future Fund in 2009 and attends the Blue Ridge Church of Christ.
Brennan is a 2001 Davidson Fellow Laureate and recently received a competitive scholarship from the Professional Development Fund of Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy.
Brennan is originally from Iowa, graduated valedictorian from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa, and holds a degree in philosophy from the University of Iowa. She and her husband married in October of 2010.Back to www.ronbrown.org Scholars
