At the Houston, Texas High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, a prestigious and demanding institution, Ernest Scott showed breadth and depth. He was business manager of the school newspaper, founding member of the Math and Science Club, Treasurer for Business Professionals of America, debater, and National Macy Scholar. Ernest was selected as the most outstanding chemistry student at MIT's 1998 MITES (Minority Introduction to Engineering, Entrepreneurship, and Science Program).
Ernest still had time to develop his talent as a concert and chamber percussionist for his school’s Wind and Percussion Ensembles. He was a member of Students for Social Responsibility and helped to implement eight different social service projects for the indigent in Harris County. As co-chair of the United Way Youth Advisory Committee, he handled the fund allocation process "with sensitivity and grace," according to his supervisor.
Ernest attends Howard University. During the summer of 2000, he was an INROADS intern at Chase Bank.Back to 1999 Scholars
