From a tumultuous past marked by sporadic homelessness and an unstable family life, Crystal Paul somehow managed to go to college and graduate from Yale University in 2008 with a degree in Psychology- Behavioral Neuroscience. After college, she lived in Guatemala, Mexico, and El Salvador, teaching English, working with the volunteer firefighters, and producing a research paper on pre-hospital care in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.
For the past year and a half she has been working in the editorial department at Beacon Press in Boston, helping to publish books that promote social justice, equality, and the progressive agenda. She hopes to advance in the publishing world, eventually acquiring, editing, and publishing fiction and non-fiction by minority authors in America and abroad and promoting social justice. Having a background in both science and the arts, she firmly believes that we need both facts and art to promote social justice and respect and equality of all peoples. She seeks to contribute to such efforts through journalism, research, and by producing and helping to make available creative works by and about minorities and oppressed peoples across the globe. She hopes to one day run her own publishing house dedicated to these values.Back to 2004 Scholars
