Victoria Tate was born and raised in sunny Southern California, where her parents taught her the values of hard work and commitment. At Long Beach Polytechnic HS, she realized her dual passion for the sciences and public service, which developed into to the goal of becoming a physician. She graduated valedictorian from Poly and went on to complete her undergraduate education at Yale University with a BS in biology. She also cultivated her interest in service by leading and participating in various community activities. After graduating in 2008, she spent two years in the Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award program doing basic science research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD while volunteering at the NIH hospital and with the Red Cross.
Victoria returned to New Haven to attend Yale School of Medicine and since her return, has been very involved in programs working with high school and college students interested in entering the health professions field. She directed the Yale Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) for college students from across the country and volunteers with the Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP) for local high school students. She organized a talent show to raise scholarship money for the HPREP students and also spearheaded the School of Medicine’s annual Hunger and Homeless Auction, raising over 30K for community organizations dedicated to serving the New Haven homeless population. Victoria plans to go into surgery and aspires to someday be CEO of a hospital.Back to 2004 Scholars
