“The new kid,” is a designation Frederik Groce knows well and is comfortable with. In the last four years alone he has attended three different high schools. While attending each he has established himself as a hardworking student, a great friend, and someone who is a joy to be around. His parents are some of the most loving people and instilled him morals, a thirst for knowledge, and the importance of family. Though far from a perfect family, he was surrounded with love and knew that if he worked hard he would achieve.

Frederik grew up in a household where studying for class while listening to drunken rants, the worries about finances, and the plans for a new move were frequent events. Yet he always was able to get that “A” on the test the next day because he was able to separate himself from the chaos. He was lucky to have a father growing up who taught him so much about how to be a man. He also learned from his father that living in the past destroys the present and any chance for the future. His father served in Vietnam, spent ten years in prison for murder, and had a failed first marriage and because of his life allowed himself to become an alcoholic. Frederik promised himself at a young age that he would never make the mistakes his father made in life, that he would take the good and leave the bad.

Imbued with the God given gifts of intelligence and leadership, he has always applied himself to his fullest academically. Taking AP and or IB classes he has always maintained straight “A’s” and been a leader and dynamic individual in all his classes. Throughout high school he has found a love for history, English, and music. These passions have influenced him to pursue a major in Political Science at Stanford University, which he hopes to use to enter law school.

Frederik has always found comfort in the fact that he is defined not by his socioeconomic status, but by what he chooses to be defined by; his intelligence and passions. He looks forward to meeting new people in college and being able to use his life experience to succeed in any endeavor he chooses to uptake. He knows that he has been gifted by the graces of God and has a duty to use his talents to achieve and to give back. He looks towards the future with enthusiasm and excitement knowing that he is prepared for whatever life throws his way.
