Drew Tucker is a senior at Half Hollow Hills High School West in Dix Hills, NY and grew up on Long Island in Wheatley Heights, NY. Drew is the son of Dennis and Terry Tucker and a brother to two sisters, Rachel and Lauren. Drew is a proud African American young man with outstanding character and an unwavering commitment to serving and giving back to his community.

“Academic Excellence has always been a priority” says Drew, who is both a National Merit Scholar Commended Student and an AP Scholar with Distinction. After being accepted to Harvard, Yale, and Columbia Universities so far, he shares his belief that “Education is the tool that will open many doors for us, but it is what we do with the opportunities presented that will determine our futures.”

Drew has spent his high school career participating in academic and community-based activities, and he has demonstrated that he is a true leader in every sense of the word. He has been highly involved in school, where he holds several leadership positions including Vice President of the National Honor Society, and President of the African American Student Organization. Drew states, “Attending a school where the majority of the students do not look like me, it is imperative we understand that, in addition to excelling academically, we must also come together to celebrate our cultures and ensure that we know our history.”

Drew is extremely involved in his community where he serves as a mentor and tutor to younger students at the nearby youth center. “I was blessed to have a strong foundation of family and faith.” He attributes this foundation to providing him with the confidence to accomplish all that he does. He adds, “I believe it is our responsibility to reach out to lift those that are less fortunate, and we must do this at each step of our journey.” Drew is also a Junior Deacon in his church and a participant in their annual Martin Luther King Breakfast which raises funds for programs and scholarships for the community. Drew’s motto is, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Drew intends to obtain his MBA, and probably his J.D, as did Ron Brown. He also believes his future will lead him down the road of Commerce, perhaps with a stop on Wall Street. Whatever Drew’s future holds, he will never forego his commitment to Service and to his community, because he is a staunch believer that “I am my brother’s keeper.”
