Lesia Bates Moss

Lesia (pronounced Lisa) Bates Moss currently serves as Vice President for Business Development for Marsh & McLennan Companies. in New York City.
Prior to that she served as President, of Seedco Financial Services, Inc. (Seedco Financial), a $200 million national not-for-profit loan fund that lends primarily to for-profit and not-for-profit businesses. Within a year of her appointment, Lesia led a successful turnaround of the organization's financial performance, raised approximately $35M in loan capital and operating support, strengthened portfolio performance, re-positioned lending strategy, and facilitated an inaugural small business policy briefing on Capitol Hill to advance the role of alternative lenders, such as CDFIs (Community Development Financial Institution), in small business economic recovery. During her tenure at Seedco Financial, Lesia conceived, launched and secured $23 million in new capital from Goldman Sachs for an innovative small business development program to support the growth and expansion of small businesses throughout New York City.
Previously, she served as President/CEO of LBM & Associates, a management and strategy consulting firm. As a seasoned executive with deep experience in finance and credit, Lesia has a diverse background that spans financial services, government and not-for-profit management. She has spent more than half her career in real estate and mortgage finance with Fortune 500 companies, such as Fannie Mae, Moody’s Investors Service and JPMorgan Chase (formerly Chemical Banking Corporation) and various City and State government agencies in New York.
Lesia is actively involved with the University of Virginia and the community, having served as director on the Walter Ridley Scholarship Fund Board and on advisory committees to support Women in Leadership and Philanthropy and local fundraising efforts in the New York City Metro area. She currently serves on the Board of the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, the oldest community development organization in the United States, the Finance Committee of the Berkeley Carroll School Board of Trustees, and a member of the Executive Leadership Council.
Lesia has been recognized by a number of national organizations for her leadership and service. She was a 2010 recipient of The Network Journal's 25 Influential Black Women in Business Award, and was named as a finalist in the 2010 NY Enterprise Awards. In 2009, Lesia accepted for Seedco Financial the “Best Overall Company of the Year” in the 6th annual international Stevie Awards for Women in Business, which recognizes service organizations with 100 or fewer employees who have made an impact in the community and was a finalist for Best Female Executive of the Year award.
Ms. Bates Moss holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Government from the University of Virginia and a Masters in Science in Real Estate Finance & Investment Analysis from New York University. She and her family reside in Brooklyn, New York.Back to www.ronbrown.org
