He initiated the Black Alumni Reunion, an event that has fostered close ties among alumni and increased giving to the University.
Mr. Mallory was a classroom teacher in the Albemarle County public schools before returning to UVa as an assistant coach and academic advisor to the men’s basketball team. He went on to found the Walter N. Ridley Scholarship Program at UVa, serve on a number of University committees and receive the 1996 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award.
